A Word from the Pastor

What Is God Calling Us To Do Now?

“Do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said to him,

“Feed my lambs” /“Tend my sheep”/ “Feed my sheep”

John 21:15-17

From a distance, the little five-year old boy spread out both arms and shouted, “Brace yourself; I am coming to give you a big hug!” The woman responded, “Yippee, are you really?” Before she could finish her sentence, the little boy ran at top speed into her arms and shouted, “Big hug- because I love you!” That was a sermon preached in action- A God- moment wrapped in that gleeful child moment. Love inevitably leads to action.

The verses summarized above come from the passage in which Jesus reinstates Peter. At the time of Jesus’ trial before the High Priest, Peter failed by denying Jesus three times. In the verses above, appearing after the resurrection, Jesus queries Peter about his love for Jesus, and commissions him, three times.  Peter was to show his love for Christ Jesus by ‘being a shepherd with responsibility for the flock’.  Love is shown in action, just like the five-year old boy demonstrated.

Thank God for Mother Nature. It’s Spring Time – new life is sprouting all around us; the stunning beauty of trees & shrubs waking up from winter is breath taking. However, the scene from our global village, our nation, communities and maybe even our homes/lives may not reflect Spring Time. We are an Easter people. We know the Risen Christ is among us with power to meet every need, just as he did for the bewildered, confused followers by the ‘Sea of Tiberias’.  As persons and a community who have encountered the Risen Christ, where can we show our love for God? What is God calling us to do now?

May we take in the blessings of Spring Time!

 Pastor Dorothy

The “Little” Things

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong – the children are slow getting dressed, you can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light – don't get mad or frustrated; God is at work watching over you. Doubtful? Think about this:

After Sept. 11th, one company invited the remaining members of other companies who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their available office space. At a morning meeting, the head of security told stories of why these people were alive...... and all the stories were just: The 'L I T T L E' things.

As you might know, the head of the company got in late that day because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts.

One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time.

One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike because of an auto accident.

One of them missed his bus.

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change.

       One's car wouldn't start.

One went back to answer the telephone.

One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have.

       One couldn't get a taxi.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone – all the little things that annoy me – I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment.

May God continue to bless you with all those annoying little things and may you remember their possible purpose.

The Sayings of Jesus
This Month’s Passage:

For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 3:17-18
